An international body created in 2008, the Union of South American Nations currently includes these member states: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela. The original intent was to create an economic union like that of the EU, with a Central Bank and a common currency. Focus has shifted however to intensify efforts of physical integration such as roads, bridges, and tunnels.
