Spain came to the Americas in search of God, glory, and gold. There they were able to implement Catholicism and with such a religion comes the idea of hegemony. Hegemony is a kind of domination that implies a measure of consent by those at the bottom. Those at the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid have accepted the principle of their own inferiority and participate in their own subjugation.
